Learn to Trust God as Father and Believe in Supernatural Results

A problem can seem so big at times, it appears insurmountable. It depends how you look at it. You can read a story about Jesus and the disciples crossing the Sea of Galilee when the fierce storm arose and see it as just that. A story.

If you put yourself in the position of one of the people in the boat, it will help you can see things from a realistic perspective.

You’re in the midst of your day when a sudden storm arises. What started out like any other day now appears as though it may very well be your last.

Mark 4:37-38 AKJV
(37)  And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
(38)  And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say to him, Master, care you not that we perish?

Maybe you and I would have thought the same thing? After all, had we been with Jesus up until that time, we would already know that He was a healer and had power to cast out devils. This situation was or at least seemed like a much different set of circumstances, though.

No one was sick or had a devil in their body. This was an external event involving the forces of nature. Maybe that’s how our thinking would have been had we been there at the time? We were all stuck on the same boat in the middle of the sea in the middle of a terrible storm. Not only were the waves beating against the boat, but the boat was full of water. The words “now full” in the 37th verse clearly show the boat was filled of with water. The next step would be sinking in the midst of the sea and drowning.

Yet, Jesus was asleep.

My thinking is, maybe he was hoping the disciples had been with him long enough to realize that they could have rebuked the storm themselves? After all, in the previous chapter of Mark’s Gospel, he’d given them the authority to heal and cast out devils (Mark 3:15).

Mark 4:39-40 AKJV
(39)  And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
(40)  And he said to them, Why are you so fearful? how is it that you have no faith?

Why were they so fearful? Because they saw imminent danger and didn’t believe they had a connection with God the Father like Jesus did. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say, they didn’t know they were already connected directly to God through Jesus?

They were getting it, though, slowly but surely. That’s why, a few chapters later, Peter asks Jesus to allow him to walk on the water with him. With this event and experience behind him, his faith had grown to the point where he finally realized that all things are possible to those who believe.

It’s no different for us today. If you’re a believer, all things are possible. There is no reason to be fearful on anything. That’s if you believe what the Bible says.

Satan, the adversary, is a created being, vastly inferior in wisdom, knowledge and ability when compared one-on-one with God.

The thing is, man is created a little lower than the angels according to Psalm 8:5 and Hebrews 2:7.

We can’t be cocky and arrogant or we’ll get run into the ground (both literally and spiritually) facing spiritual enemies with our own strength.

Jesus plainly stated, “Without me you can’t do anything” (John 15:5).

Here’s the thing, if you look at your natural resources and abilities and match them up against the tests and trials you’re facing, you’ll have 101 opportunities to become afraid. Being in control is an illusion. What really do you have control over? Other people? Circumstances? In some cases, you don’t even have control over yourself, right?

That’s why the Gospel is truly good news. Through Christ, you can connect with God the Father.

John 16:26-27 AKJV
(26)  At that day you shall ask in my name: and I say not to you, that I will pray the Father for you:
(27)  For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.

I think much of the English speaking world has put so much emphasis on intellectualizing the Bible and what’s actually being said that they miss out on the practical power that’s available to them through faith and prayer. Instead, they have a philosophy in place of the power of God in their lives.

Yet, you can go online and read testimonial after testimonial from people who’ve experienced the supernatural power of God in their lives. These are ordinary people who are “unknowns” as most people would see them.

Mark 5:35-36 AKJV
(35) While he yet spoke, there came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house certain which said, Your daughter is dead: why trouble you the Master any further?
(36) As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he said to the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.

Only believe. Don’t be afraid and only believe. Is Jesus gave that advice then, would it be any different now?

Maybe you’ll have to talk to God for a bit before you’ll finally be free from the fear that’s been tormenting you. Once the fear is gone, it’s much easier to believe.

So I encourage you today, be honest before God. Forget “Christian Correctness.” What I mean is, you are who you are at this point in time. I’m talking about today. Don’t pretend to be something you’re not. Go to God just as you are as the real you. People pay a lot of money to lay on someone’s couch and tell them about all their problems for an hour. Some people do this for years because it makes them feel a little bit for awhile. Why not lay on your own couch and talk to God? He can reach down on the side of you and actually changes things. You won’t have to have a prescription filled, either.

Real, heartfelt honesty between yourself and God will bring positive change to every area of your life.
